Ketamine & Related Compounds for Psychiatric Disorders | 21st – 23rd March 2018 | Oxford

International conference on Ketamine in psychiatry

“The discovery of the antidepressant effect of ketamine is the most important advance in psychopharmacology in 50 years. Clinical adoption in the US has been rapid, with over 100 clinics established in the last 2 years. Clinical experience has moved ahead of research – an unusual situation which creates opportunities as well as risks.”

Only recently, ketamine was called a drug, and conservative German psychiatrists argued that the devil was done with Belzebub. Meanwhile, the treatment with ketamine in an overall concept is becoming increasingly popular.

INVITATION | Open day | Psychosomatics you can touch!

We warmly invite you to meet the new premises of Instituto Dr Scheib at the Clínica Luz on this afternoon.

Our team of doctors and therapists will demonstrate our methodology and current technologies.

DATE: WEDNESDAY, 13.12.2017  |  4 – 7 pm

  |  C/ Camilo José Cela, 20 | Palma de Mallorca

Our program:

  • Quantitative EEG and neurofeedback
Watch your brain while it thinks! In the Brain Avatar you can watch the activity of the different brain areas during the recording of the EEG and see how stress or relaxation becomes visible in the brain function! Also experience how your brain is able to change animations on the screen simply by concentrating and can thereby affect the entire autonomic nervous system!
The quantitative EEG helps diagnose a variety of disorders. Neurofeedback is used in particular for ADD/ADHD, seizures, addictions, depression, anxiety disorders and chronic pain.
  • Repetitive transcranial magnet stimulation (rTMS)
Experience how stimulating the brain with a strong magnetic field can cause muscle twitching.
rTMS stimulates brain activity. It is particularly suitable for the treatment of depression, tinnitus, paralysis after strokes and even brings improvements in patients with dementia.
  • Peripheral biofeedback and HRV biofeedback
Experience how muscle tone, skin resistance, and breathing change with stress, and how simple relaxation exercises affect those responses. Steer a hot air balloon on the monitor just by calming down the activity of your heart.
We use biofeedback for back pain, migraine and incontinence. HRV (heart rate) biofeedback works against coronary heart disease and high blood pressure.
  • Behaviour therapy in virtual reality
Ride up a skyscraper on an open exterior elevator with VR glasses! Even if you have no fear of heights – we can measure even the most subtle anxiety reactions of your body and counteract them with special relaxation exercises.
We use virtual reality therapy programs for phobias, such as vertigo, fear of animals or crowds.
  • Ketamine infusion treatment for depression
Watch a video showing the effect of a ketamine infusion on brain activity! Listen to a patient‘s report on its effects on major depression.
We use ketamine infusions for depression, chronic pain, obsessive-compulsive disorder and trauma disorders.
  • Sports and physiotherapy
Try the vibrating plate with our personal trainer.
We use this method for the treatment of incontinence or back pain as well as after joint surgery to accelerate the healing process.

And get to know our team!!

We are a multi-professional team consisting of specialist doctors from psychosomatic medicine, psychiatry, general medicine, psychologists, medical and psychological psychotherapists, addiction and trauma therapists, as well as sports and physical therapists.

Ketamine in the treatment of depression, posttraumatic stress disorders (PTSD) and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Ketamine has been a well-known anesthetics over many decades, which can be used for short anaesthesia during minor surgical procedures or in the emergency medicine. It was noticeable for a long time that it led to an increased dream activity. For this reason it spread also in the drug scene.

This story seems to impede the dissemination of this safe and with few side effects medication.A lot of psychiatrists avoid the use ofnarcotics, others feel repelled by the image of the medicament as a “drug”. A psychiatrist said to me that we would replace one evil by another.

Special treatment concept for patients with posttraumatic stress disorder and trauma sequelae.

Posttraumatic stress disorders result from stresses of exceptional magnitude or catastrophic extent. There is a sense of helplessness and a shattering of the understanding of the ego and the world. Sleep disturbances, increased vegetative tension, concentration disorders, affectability, depression, anxiety and avoidance behavior follow. Many patients withdraw socially, drug abuse increase, along with suicidality. Chronic pain syndromes are often the result of a posttraumatic stress disorder.

Large burden on the pilot profession

A prevention and early intervention programme for commercial airline pilots, with fast and discreet treatment in Mallorca

After the tragic Germanwing crash due to a mental disorder of the co-pilot, many commercial pilots are afraid to disclose their own possible mental health issues or psychosocial crisis situations, because they fear the loss of their pilot’s licence. The disturbing conclusion: depression remains untreated.

Psychiatric disorders and/or depression are found in pilots just as often as they can be found in the general population. However, for pilots, such a disease may lead to the loss of theirprofessional licence and constitute, therefore, athreat to their livelihoods. This makespilots and crew members become secretive about their psychological problems, allowing it to become ataboo within the profession, adding a supplementary burden to a profession that alreadybears great responsibility and an extremely stressful workload.
