(Vortrag in Englisch-Spanisch:) Major Depression is one of the biggest challenges for the health systems in the next decades (WHO). Nearly 20 percent of the population suffer at least once in their life from a depressive episode what sometimes leads to a suicidal action.
The majority of depressions ist only treated with antidepressive medication, sometimes also with psychotherapy. But the results sometimes are very poor.
There are new scientifically recognized treatments available, but they are largely unknown. Ketamine-Infusions are widely used in the USA. They lead to an immediate improvement and suicidal thoughts disappear. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) or direct current stimulation (tDCS) have similar or even better effectiveness as antidepressive
medication but nearly no side effects. Combinating psychotherapy with these treatments leads in nearly 90 percent to a sustainable improvement of depressive symptoms.
